Making The Best Better

When I was a little kid, I was raised in a little town in
Northern Indiana.  I could pretty much do what I wanted to
do as long as I followed the rules.  My parents were there to
set the boundaries and I knew better than to cross them.
So I didn't.

Within the parameters that were mine, I was always
thinking, trying to figure how I could make something better,
or like I learned in 4-H--"To Make the Best Better."

That made a lot of sense to me so I kept looking for
opportunities to make the best better.  I would ask my dad
for the rejects from his store and I would set up an orange
crate in the center of town and sell the stuff for half price.
Everybody won.  I built value out of throw a ways and the
customers got the merchandise for less because it was not
in mint condition but it still worked.  I would make sure of
that.

I loved to build ships and things and did that all through my
youth.  One day, I sat back and thought about all the things
I did as a kid that I liked best and I realized that out of all
that, there was a Unique Factor that showed up.

I realized that what I was about was to help make the best
better.  Today, that is the same thing---some things never
change.  I like to see people go from where they are to
where they want to be.  Keeping that Unique Factor in mind,
I built a business out of it.

It didn't matter whether it was a retail client that I helped or a
professional in my network that I helped, I was now building
people.  I was helping them work less and producing more
because I reminded them the importance of doing their
passion.

Doing your Passion---a key to success for sure.  In fact you
can take your success to significance with that one.  So
that's what I teach---how can you create a lifestyle not just
make a living doing your passion and not just a job?

There you have it.  That's it---another key to take your
success to significance.  All this sounds good, but what if
you don't know how to market it?

Here is a 3-point strategy that has worked for me for years.
Maybe it can help you too.

Draw a triangle.  On the bottom of your triangle put Unique
Factor.  On the left side put Image and on the right side put
positioning.  Draw another triangle.  On the bottom, put
What?  On the left, put Who?  On the right, put Where?

This is the simplest marketing strategy that I know.  You
first decide what is your greatest talent, your unique factor.
What is your passion?  What do you love to do that makes
the greatest impact, that makes you the most money.  If
you can define that, it becomes Fun and Money and Impact!

Go back when you were a kid and figure out what you loved
to do and how does that tie into your business today?   Can
you add some features to your business today from that
analysis?

Who are you in the marketplace?  What do people know
you for?  Pay attention to the questions people ask you.  If
they didn't think you knew, they wouldn't ask you.  Since
they are, what do those questions define?  How do they
relate to a business of services you can deliver because you
are an expert in it?  Create that image, that picture and help
other people see what that picture looks like.  Tell them
about it.  Share it with them.  Make sure you know,
understand and can define the business you're in and are
letting people know.

How are you positioning that information?  Are you writing
articles in publications where your customers are reading?
Are you working on the internet to get your expertise out
there?  Get published everywhere you can that positions you
in the market of your target market.

Speak to audiences who are your market.  Write to the
audiences who are your market.  Share ideas to help the
audiences who are your market.  Where can you go to
position yourself in your target market?

In conclusion, be a pro at what you decide to do.  Do it with
enthusiasm.  If it isn't your passion, it will be hard to pull off
enthusiasm.  Be willing to give it away and it will come back
to you.
