DiSC Helps Families Communicate
My own story is one of affiliating with Carlson
Learning Company, now Inscape Publishing, in September of 1978 in the first
network certification as a single mother with two
children. When Dr. John Geier asked us to stand up and
introduce ourselves, I stood up and said, "Hi, I am
Sandy Karn, I have two children, Todd and Tammy and this
is the best opportunity I have seen in the 7 years I
have been in the personal and professional development
business." Then I sat down.
The fact is, if I had not had the DiSC information to
use in raising my children, our communications would
have never been as good as they were. Communications are
not always perfect, but with the right tools, you can
make them better and more effective.
DiSC became a language in our home and it helped a
lot. When Tammy wanted to tell me all the details of her
day, I was able to tell her that when I tucked her in
that night, I would listen to all the High C stuff for
as long as it took because all those details were
important to her. She understood what I meant and was
not put off by the delay.
As a single parent with my circumstances, I did not
want to work for someone else and leave my children. So,
I created a way that I could do all my marketing over
the phone and I could make my own schedule according to
their needs most of the time. I was able to build my
business and be a stay-at-home mom.
My story has a happy ending. My kids are doing great
and I am too right along with them. I count my many
blessings every day.
